From our guide to Spain
Arriving in the dreamy silence of siesta time, you'd never imagine the hamlet of Palouet could contain such a place as Can Cuadros. The labyrinthine, 900-year-old castle is more museum than hotel...

We all know that the Spanish conception of time can be fairly loose. Spaniards firmly believe they determine the course of time and not the other way round. You will have to take this on board and relax about time when in Spain. Enjoy all those little things that can make life so enjoyable, with which the Spaniards regularly indulge themselves. The 'sobremesa', the ubiquitous chat over coffee after lunch; a siesta to cope with the rigours of the hot summers; or 'el paseo', the stroll down the main avenue at dusk with no specific purpose in mind.
