Our Green Ethos

In 2005 we won a Business Commitment to the Environment Award and in 2006 a Queen's Award for Enterprise in the Sustainable Development category. All this has boosted our resolve to promote our green policies and put sustainability at the heart of all we do. Our credentials include:

  • Our eco offices - with super-insulation, underfloor heating, a wood pellet boiler, solar panels and a rainwater tank. Our renovated barns and new oak building create a working environment benign to ourselves and to the environment
  • Carbon offsetting - we calculate our carbon emissions, plant trees to compensate and support SCAD in South India
  • Our books - we are gradually introducing "green pages" that highlight those owners who make an extra environmental effort. Our green work with owners - we are proud that our B&Bs and many of our small hotels help support local economies »
  • Our printers - Butler, Tanner & Dennis, based in Somerset, are committed to high-quality printing with a minimal impact on the environment. More on our other green friends »

Sawday's Environmental Books

Our main aim is to publish beautiful guide books but, for us, the question of who we are is also important. Since 2000 our environmental titles - the Fragile Earth series, One Planet Living and the Big Earth Book - have become 'must haves' for anyone who seeks clarity about some of the key issues of our time.
